The Hammer, 1933
Ásmundur Sveinsson created The Hammer in Reykjavík, shortly after finishing the bas-reliefs at Austurbæjarskóli elementary school. Around this time, the artist created many sculptures which depicted the working classes. The sculpture is a thick, solid whole with no air – the man and the hammer are as one.
