Between 1964 and 1967, Erró asked artists, musicians, poets, gallery owners, critics and curators to surprise him without warning. In 1967, Erró collected recordings of portraits he had made over the years; some of the recordings were only a few seconds long, others lasted up to two minutes, until the person holding the camera was overcome with laughter and the film began to shake. In the same year, Denise de Casabianca edited 173 recordings with expertise and sensitivity resulting in a 40-minute film. The result is Grimace, an experimental film that is as anarchic as it is subjective.
The book contains 133 clips from the film. This book provides detailed explanations of individual shots, the presentation, and the actors.
