Rest, 1936-37
Ásmundur Sveinsson created Rest in Copenhagen, where he rented a studio and took a break from the construction work at Freyjugata in Reykjavík – where he was building a house and a studio. During his winter in Denmark, the artist created sixteen pieces which all depict the working classes, many of whom have become well-known.
