Sun Worship, 1940
Sun Worship is a bas-relief presenting a person against a rock who greets the sun and bathes in its warmth. The work references other reliefs Ásmundur Sveinsson created, for example at Ljósafoss Dam and in The Church of Akureyri. The sculpture could be interpreted as Ásmundur’s optimistic view of the future in the wake of the boom in Icelandic society.
