Viking, 1928
Ásmundur Sveinsson’s work usually contains a clear reference to nature, history or literature. Viking takes its inspiration and subject material from the Icelandic storytelling tradition. Sveinsson created the piece in Paris, around the same time as he studied in Académie Julien. Soon after his arrival in Paris, Sveinsson’s work became characterised by an increased sense of motion.
